Born in Burke County, NC on May 23, 1927, he was the son of the late Ivey Douglas Crump and Mary Brown Crump.
Ray was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII; he served 11 months in Europe during the war. He retired from Valdese Weavers after 45 years of service. He dedicated his life to his family and loved farming.
Mr. Crump is survived by his sons, Ronnie Crump and his wife, Janet, and Robert Crump and his wife, Becky, all of Morganton; a grandson, Casey Crump of Morganton; step-grandchildren, Shawn McDaris of Granite Falls, NC and Leslie Belizar of Morganton; a brother, Curtis Crump of Morganton; a half-brother, Larry Crump of Hudson, NC; and his loving caregiver, Cheryl Stilley. Without Cheryl, Daddy could not have stayed in his home.
In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by his wife, Blanche H. Crump of 63 years; three brothers; and three sisters.
The family will greet friends from 10 - 11 a.m., Saturday, February 13, 2016 at Sossoman Funeral Home. The graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. at Burke Memorial Park.
