Obituary from the Colfax Leader newspaper dated Friday, March 6, 1891:
John Crumbaker was taken with a stroke of palsy Wednesday afternoon, February 25, and died on the Friday morning following. His funeral services were held Sunday at the Evergreen Church, were for many years he attended public worship. He was born in Loudoun County, Virginia, October 6, 1816. He was a member of the Methodist Church over twelve years. During his last rational hours, though in great distress, he was happy in the Lord. Truly the dear ones left behind need not sorrow as those who have no hope. He is buried in Evergreen Cemetery Lawndale Township.

John Crumbaker, a worthy and well-known resident of Colfax, died at his home last Friday morning after a brief illness with paralysis. Mr. Crumbaker came to Illinois from Ohio in 1864. The funeral services were held at the Evergreen church Sunday afternoon.
