Obituary from the Colfax Leader newspaper dated Friday, October 11, 1901:

Mrs. John Crumbaker, whose maiden name was Rebecca Williams, was born in Maysville, Ohio, September 24, 1821. She entered upon the Christian life and united with the M. E. church in 1835, or two thirds of a century ago.

April 24, 1841, she was united in marriage with John Crumbaker and together they walked life's journey for nearly 50 years. She was the mother of nine children, two girls and seven sons, all of whom survive her except the eldest daughter, Mariah, who budded into a beautiful young womanhood and then in 1866 entered upon the life beyond.

In 1863 during the trying days of the Civil War, she came to Lexington, Illinois, and continued to reside in this state until her death. Her husband died in 1891; leaving her to continue lifes journey alone. Mrs. Crumbaker enjoyed a remarkably green old age, for one of her advanced years, until Sunday, September 29, when she had a stroke of paralysis from which she did not rally, and died Thursday, October 3, 1901. Mrs. Crumbaker was an obliging neighbor, a devoted wife, an affectionate and kind mother, and an exemplary Christian. She enjoyed the services of religion and was always found on Sunday in her place at church if possible, and thereby set a good example to her family and friends.

The funeral was held in the Colfax M. E. church at 10 a.m. Saturday, her pastor officiating. The body was laid to rest in the Evergreen cemetery.

Mrs. Crumbaker had the consolation in the closing hours of her long and useful life of having all her children at her bed side, and they were all able to attend the funeral of their beloved mother.
