DEATH TAKES S. H. CRUMB AT MAYO'S.
After waging a heroic battle against disease and pain for a fortnight, Stewart H. Crumb, assistant sales manager for the Greenlee Brothers Company, died Saturday night at Mayo Brothers hospital, Rochester, Minnesota. Death came at 8:35 o'clock with his wife, a brother Arthur R. Curmb, and a sister Miss Frances Crumb, and Mrs. Frank McNeany, Mrs. Crumb's sister, at the bedside. He was 38 years of age.
Mr. Crumb went to Rochester two weeks ago unaccompanied to undergo a serious stomach operation. He knew the seriousness of the operation, but faced his ordeal with high courage. The operation was successful, but post-operative pneumonia set in and for ten days he battled death. Then the congestion in his lungs slowly cleared, but an infection set in in his head, bringing greater agony. Pneumonia recurred and caused his death. Both Dr. Wlliam and Dr. Charles Mayo gave the case their personal attention, doing all that medical science had in its power.
Stewart Crumb was born in Rockford 38 years ago, a son of Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Crumb. His marriage to Miss Lydia Neal took place in 1913 in Rockford. He leaves, beside her, three little sons, Neal, Robert and John; the parents Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Crumb; a brother Arthur R. Curmb, and a sister, Miss Frances Crumb. The body arrived in Janesville this morning and was met by three automobiles carrying fellow officers at Greenlee's as a tribute to their friend. Funeral services will be held from the Second Congregational church Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery.
