UPTON, born Feb. 7, 1822, in Maryland, served one year from June, 1846, in the 4th Ill. Inf., under Col. E. D. Baker, in the Mexican war. He was married in 1850, in Sangamon county, to Sarah E. Taggart. They had one living child, MARY J., born April 22, 1858, married Feb. 10, 1874, in Springfield, to Eugene W. Renshaw, who was born June 25, 1851, in Decatur. He is a grandson of James, who was a brother to Samuel Renshaw. E. W. Renshaw lives one and a half miles northeast of Berry station. Upton Crowl died March 8, 1872, and his widow resides one and a half miles northeast of Berry, or Clarksville.
