Arlee "Jo" Crowl passed away Saturday, Oct. 29, 2011, surrounded by her family, after a long battle with congestive heart failure.
Funeral services for Jo will be Thursday Nov. 3, 2011, at 10 a.m. at the First Christian Church, officiated by Doyle Kinney, and burial will conclude in the Clinton Cemetery under the direction of the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home.
Jo Crowl was born Dec. 24, 1926, to Wesley Herman and Nina Bea Morris. She attended Arapaho High School and graduated in 1945.Jo began her studies in business when she attended Oklahoma A&M for one semester on a scholarship she won as the outstanding 4-H girl for Custer County.
Jo put her bookkeeping skills to work for Strange Jones Hardware and Sears in the early part of her career. Jo joined her husband, Bud, at Midwest Farmers Co-op and cotton gin as the bookkeeper and debt collector in about 1950.
She worked hard to keep accurate records for the business and to be sure that customers were treated fairly. For that, she was loved by customers and auditors alike. During her time at Midwest Farmers, the cotton gin burned down and was re-built in 1957. Jo worked there until her retirement in 1995.
Jo was very involved in her children's lives as they grew up. She served as a Cub Scout den mother, a Girl Scout leader, 4-H Leader and was also involved in the PTA at Washington Elementary School. Jo also was a longtime member of the Clinton Quilters Guild.
Jo's strength allowed her to accomplish many things in her life. She was very proud of being a 32-year survivor of breast cancer. Those 32 years gave her time to help shape the lives of the grandchildren and great grandchildren that she loved so much. The grandkids each have very special memories of how she has touched their lives. They love their grandma and will certainly miss her.
Jo was preceded in death by her parents; son, Steven Joe Crowl; and brother, Harold Dean Morris.
Jo is survived by her husband of 64 years, Ray (Bud) Crowl of the home; her son, Kenneth Ray Crowl of Enid; her daughter, Karin Lynn Snider and her husband, Donald W. Snider, of Clinton; grandchildren, Cindy Crowl, Brad Snider and his wife, Crystal, Chad Crowl and his fiancée Holly Shearon, Jared Snider and his wife, Amber, Justin Snider and Dawnel Hollan, and Julie Gordon and her husband, Chris; great grandchildren, Bryce Crowl, Bradon and Bryson Snider, Jordyn Snider, and Nathan, Keaton and Kiersten Gordon; her sister, Vera Bea Speilman and her husband, Don, of Topeka, Kan.
She is also survived by several nieces and nephews, as well as special family friends: Pat and Virgil Smith, Debbie Newman, Amy Kelley, and longtime friend and minister Doyle Kinney and his wife, Terri.
Jo's faith and love of the Lord has been a large part of her life from a very early age. She was baptized when she was 12 years old at the First Christian Church of Custer City. Later, Jo worked with the preschoolers at Vicksburg's Country Church and taught Sunday school for both the middle school and youth at the First Christian Church in Clinton. She also worked at church camp and drove an occasional church bus.The family would like to say "thank you" to Dr. Robert Blakeburn, Integris Samaritan Home Care and Western Oklahoma Hospice for the wonderful care that was provided. They would also like to thank all those who have kept Jo and the family in their thoughts and prayers as they have made this journey.
