ATHERTON,SOFFIA (CROUCH),81, died unexpectedly September 15, 2011.Soffia was dearly loved by her family and many friends. She was so generous with her time and talents. She never met a stranger and had a huge heart for helping others.Soffia was born in Reyjkavik,Iceland, one of 10 children. She lived most of her life in Louisville, but also lived in St. Petersberg, FL and Kingsport, TN. After raising her family, she went back to college and became a registered nurse. She was a devoted caring nurse for many years.She was also a proud advocate for the nurses union.She enjoyed playing golf at Audubon Country Club for many years, was an avid bridge player, and loved to travel. She loved being with friends, and most of all her family. She was preceded in death by her son, Alfred D. "AD" Hall; and six brothers and sisters. Soffia is survived by her children, Laura Hall Gannon (Brian), Donna Dusel Dallenbach(Fred), and N. Craig Atherton;
grandchildren,Stephanie Dusel Lowry, Martha Freeman Martin, Craig "CJ" Atherton Jr., and Jennifer Hanover; six great-grandchildren; three brothers, Helgi Sigurdin Hallgrimsson, Gudmundur Hallgrimsson, Jon Hallgrimsson,; and many nieces and nephews. Her memorial service will be at 12 noon Tuesday, September 20 at St. Theresa Church, 1010 Schiller Ave., with burial to follow at Cave Hill Cemetery. Please join us from 3:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday at 1517 Sylvan Way to celebrate her life.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to The dePaul School 1925 Duker Ave., Louisville, KY 40205.
