Colchester/Milton, Ila M. Barrows, 72 of Colchester, passed away peacefully at her home in Colchester on Wednesday evening, April 9, 2014. Ila was born May 21, 1941 in Milton the daughter of Oliver John and Rose LaBelle Cross. She attended schools in Milton and on October 26, 1956 she married Keith Allen Barrows in Milton. She worked 27 years on the custodial staff at the town office building in Milton while at the same time was self employed as a housekeeper for several different homes in town. She was a member of the Arrowhead Seniors and the Eagles Aerie # 4218 in Milton. Keith predeceased her on March 18, 1999. Seven years from his passing, she found it comforting to be in the company of her and Keith's friend, Carl Anson. Ila and Carl rekindled a fond friendship with each other and shared many goods times together. Ila is survived by the love of her life, Carl Anson of Colchester and her children; Jeffrey Barrows of Milton, Brenda Legacy of Milton, Kevin Barrows and his wife, Lynn of South Hero, Gina McSweeney and her husband, Donny of Milton and Ricky Barrows and his wife, Nancy of Georgia. Her grandchildren; Christopher, Stephanie, Joleen. Tracey, Derek, Donny Jr, Jessica, Jennifer, Rick Jr. and Emily. Her great grandchildren; Alyssa, Cameron, Jacob, Johnathon , Colin, Olivia, Lillian and Faith. Her mother, Rose Cross of Milton. Two sisters; Josephine Pellitier of Milton and Pauline Gordon and her husband, Leland of Jeffersonville and her brother, Arlon Cross and his wife, Carolyn of Milton. Besides being predeceased by her husband, Keith. She was predeceased by her son, Mitchell Keith Barrows in 1978 and his fiancé, Lorraine Dubuque. Her father, John Cross in 2003, her grandson, Jeremy Legacy in 2011 and her sister, Marie Burnet. A special thanks goes to all those who were there for Ila during her life as well as during her illness. Everyone who knew Ila had their own special bond with her. Memories of her will be cherished forever. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, April 13, 2014 from 3-5 and 7-9 in the Minor Funeral Home, Route 7 in Milton. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, April 14th at 11 am with Fr. Peter O'Leary officiating. Burial will follow in St. Ann's Cemetery in Milton. A luncheon will follow at the Eagles Club in Milton. Anyone who wishes to bring a dish to share is welcome to do so and it would be greatly appreciated.
