Yesterday Mr. Francis H. Cross, an old resident and formerly a carpenter of this city, was drowned in the harbor near the smelting works at the East End. He was going down a ladder to the water to take a bath, when he fell head first and died before help came. Mr. Cross was a man of about 65 or 70, and leaves a family of five children, two sons and three daughters. He lived on Lafayette street.
