Catherine 'Kay' Crosby, 77, of Cornell passed away Thursday, Sept. 20, 2007, at her residence, surrounded by her family and in the care of St. Joseph's Hospice, after a short but courageous battle with cancer.
Kay was born Jan. 22, 1930, the daughter of Guy and Hazel (Hanson) DeMarce. After graduating from Cornell High School, she remained a lifelong resident of Cornell. Kay married Tom Crosby Dec. 4, 1948. In addition to raising her family, over the years she worked at various local employers but has been retired for a number of years.
Kay was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church and the Red Hat Society, the Three Sisters Chapter.
Mom lived a full life and had many favorite times, but was most happy entertaining friends on her front porch. Always the excellent host, she made sure her guests' plates were filled before she ever took her first bite. She will be missed by many but never forgotten.
Survivors include her children, Jeffery Crosby of Eau Claire, Cynthia (Dave) Sargent and Hollis (Tony) Kinard, both of Cornell; five grandchildren, Caitlin Crosby, Danielle Kinard, Brett Kinard, Jason Sargent and Jacob Sargent; great-grandchildren, Dylan Sargent, Jacob Sargent, Emerson Sargent, Hannah Kinard; and step-great-grandchild, Aries Cogbill. Catherine is also survived by a sister, Dolores Wajek of Cornell.
Kay was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Gary and Dean; and one sister, Gaylyn. After many years, she is now able to rejoin them.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Borton Funeral Home in Cornell, with the Rev. James Leschensky officiating. Burial will be in Cornell Cemetery. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until time of service Sunday at the funeral home.
The family extends a special thank you to her physicians in Marshfield and all the caregivers associated with the hospice program at St. Joseph's Hospital.
