Leona C. Brunner, 96, of Lower Burrell, passed away Friday, July 22, 2011, in West Haven Nursing Home. Born Jan. 26, 1915, in Pittsburgh, she was a daughter of the late Earl Lewis and Simeon (Thomas) Cromer. Leona lived in Lower Burrell for the last 25 years, and was a member of Mt. St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, New Kensington. She loved working with her hands, crocheting, and all types of crafts. Leona enjoyed reading and was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John W. Brunner, in 1980; sisters, Ruth Cromer and Dorothy Mixie; and a brother, Earl Lewis Cromer Jr. Leona is survived by her daughters, Leona M. (William) Gerardi, of Kiski Township, Ruth E. Topping, of Flossmoor, Ill., and Mary Ann Brunner, of Spring Church; son, Robert J. (Cathy) Brunner, of Woodstock, Ill.; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; sister, Margaret Shaffer, of Ohio; and nieces and nephews. Visitation takes place from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the CURRAN-SHAFFER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY INC., 100 Owens View Ave., Apollo. Mass of Christian Burial follows at noon Tuesday in St. James Roman Catholic Church, 109 Owens View Ave., Apollo, with the Rev. Larry Kiniry as celebrant.
