Robert S. "Bobby"Crockett, Jr., 82, husband of Carolyn Gilvin Crockett, passed away Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at his home.
He was born September 18, 1930 in Nicholas County to the late Robert Scott & Anna Dee Lynam Crockett and was a 1949 graduate of Carlisle High School. Bobby was a well-known and respected businessman who owned Crockett's IGA in Carlisle for more than 55 years and was the owner of Crockett Farms. He was a former member of the Kentucky Army National Guard, the American Legion and a 50-year member of Dougherty Lodge #65 F. & A.M. as well as an Honorable Kentucky Colonel. He also served on the Board of Directors for Whitaker Bank-Carlisle and the Executive Board of the Whitaker Bank Corporation in Lexington. A longtime member of the Carlisle Christian Church, he was honored as a Deacon Emeritus. Bobby devoted the vast majority of his life to the store, but in his free time he enjoyed playing softball as a young man and was an avid fan of UK Basketball.
Also surviving are a sister– Betty Crockett Fay, a nephew– Bobby Lloyd (Judy) Fay, a great-nephew– Bobby Lloyd "Chip" (Davida) Fay, Jr., 2 great-great nieces– Makayla & Keilee Fay, all of Carlisle, a brother-in-law– Gene (Jean) Gilvin, of Georgetown, a sister-in-law– Virginia Thompson, of Lexington, his beloved dog, Peppie, and several other nieces and nephews as well as a host of friends.
He was also preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Charles Fay.
Services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, January 12, 2013 at the Carlisle Christian Church by Rev. Steve Smith with burial following in the Carlisle Cemetery.
Visitation will be after 4:00 P.M. Friday at the church.
