Ruby Mae (Lee) Wilson Cripe, 95, of Attica, died at 8:20 p.m. EST Monday, Feb. 25, 2008, at St. Vincent Williamsport Hospital in Williamsport.
Ruby was born on March 29, 1912, in Danville, Ill. She was the daughter of the late Lawrence J. and Nora (Wamsher) Lee. She grew up in Danville, Ill., and Cates before moving to Attica in 1928. She then moved back to Danville, Ill., in 1973 until 2002 when she returned to the Attica area. She attended Attica High School.
Ruby married Jesse F. Wilson on June 29, 1929, in Crown Point. He preceded her in death on Oct. 30, 1970. She then married Denzil L. Cripe on April 29, 1973, in Danville, Ill. He preceded her in death on Dec. 17, 2002.
Ruby worked as a telephone operator and clerk for Indiana Bell from April 1951 until retiring in May 1974. She was a member of Farmers Chapel United Methodist Church in Danville, Ill., and served in the Farmers Chapel Missionary Ladies Club. She was a charter member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 3318; a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 125; Ladies Auxiliary of the Eagles 2596; Business & Professional Women's Club; American War Mothers and the Telephone Pioneers, all of Attica.
Survivors include three daughters, Lois Jean Pruitt and Kay Whistler, both of Attica, and Anne (husband-David) Morgan of Williamsport; a son, William Ray (wife-Ruth) Wilson of Clinton, Ill.; a stepdaughter, Wanna Spounias of Bonita, Calif.; three stepsons, Terry (wife-Linda) Cripe of Chula Vista, Calif., Larry (wife-Nancy) Cripe of Mattoon, Ill., and Darrell Cripe of Danville, Ill.; a sister, Fannie Buck of Lafayette; three brothers, Hershall Lee of Danville, Ill., Jack Lee of Lafayette and David Lee of Eugene; 18 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by a son, Robert Wilson, and seven brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. EST until the service time at 2:15 p.m. EST with a VFW ladies auxiliary service at 2 p.m. EST Thursday, Feb. 28 at the Maus Funeral Home in Attica. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Attica. Contributions may be made to the Farmers Chapel Church, VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Eagles Auxiliary or the Order of the Eastern Star.
