CANTON - Laurel G. Crick, 82, of 235 S. First Ave., Canton, Ill., passed away Saturday, March 1, 2008, at 6:30 a.m. at Sunset Manor Nursing Home, Canton.
He was born Feb. 21, 1926, in Cuba to William and Fannie (Abbott) Crick. He married Mary Lou Shields on June 28, 1947, in Canton.
She survives, along with one son, Steven A. (Nina) Crick of Loves Park, Ill.; one daughter, Luann (Michael) Baldock of Morton; one brother, Maurice Crick of LaPalma, Calif.; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and nine stepgreat-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
He first worked at Farm Supply Company. He later owned and operated Cricks Phillips 66 Station in Canton for 20 years, retiring in 1988.
He was a member of the Wesley UME Church, Canton. He was a member of the Canton Masonic Lodge No. 734.
He served in the Merchant Marines during WWII.
Memorial services will be Tuesday, March 4, at 2 p.m., with visitation one hour prior at the Murphy-Sedgwick Memorial Home, Canton. The Rev. Dr. Richard Riley will officiate. Burial will be in Fiatt Cemetery, Fiatt. Cremation rites have been accorded.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research.
