Pfc. Creager was inducted into the army on July 7, 1942 and was sent overseas Sept. 10, 1943. He was a member of the 33rd Armored Regiment of the Third Army and was an assistant tank driver at the time of his death. He was killed in action in the vicinity of Abbaye, France, when the tank he was in was shelled by German mortars and caught fire. He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal and two battle stars.

Two of the crew members escaped with serious injuries but the other three were burned beyond recognition.

Pfc. Creager was survived by his mother, Mrs. Montella Creager, two sisters, Irene (Mrs. C. E. Miller) of Kalamazoo, and Betty at home, and three brothers, James, Vernon, and Robert, all of Constantine.
