Mrs. Frances Ellis
Mrs. Frances M. Ellis, 76, of 118 N. Sheridan, died today at 12:07 a.m. at Ottumwa Hospital. She had been active in the local Red Cross Chapter and in volunteer services to the Knoxville Administration Hospital. She was also active in the Salvation Army and was well-known in the hybridizing of day lily and iris flowers.
She was born Sept. 2, 1895, in Montezuma County, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Craver. She had lived in Ottumwa since 1924. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star No. 112, the Wapello White Shrine No. 4, and was a past president of the Ottumwa Women's Club. She was employed by the Ottumwa Hospital first as a nurse's aide and later as an LPN.
She was married to Beryl E. Ellis in 1926 in Lancaster, Mo. He survives. Also surviving are one brother, Lonnie Craver of New Sharon; one sister, Mrs. Fern Francis of Crawfordsvlle; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceeded in death by several sisters.
The service will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Johnson Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Wallace Russell, retired minister of Plymouth Congregational Church, officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery at Centerville. The casket will be closed at the beginning of the service.
A memorial fund has been established payable to the Cancer Society in care of Mrs. Wilma Zook at 109 N. College.
