He married Lola Mae Birdwell in Healdton on August 15, 1954. She preceded him in death on June 11, 1981. Also preceding him in death were his parents; a sister and brother-in-law, Aleta and Jack Gooden. A 1947 graduate of Healdton High School, Bill attended Draughon's Business College in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, before serving his country in the Korean War. He served as a Director of the Healdton Chamber of Commerce, and had been recognized as Healdton Citizen of the Year in 1974. Bill was very proud to serve 20 years as a Healdton Volunteer Fireman, to serve on the Healdton Hospital Board, and was a former member of the Healdton Lions Club. Bill married Judy Jane King on April 9, 1982 in Sapulpa. He began a successful career with OG&E, climbing electrical poles, and after 35 years of service, he retired as Healdton District Manager in 1987. Bill and Judy became members of Ardmore First Baptist Church in 1997, where he faithfully served on various committees, and taught a men's Sunday School class. Bill was active in the music program at the church, singing with the Keenage Choir, the Adult Choir, and a Men's Quartet. They moved to Ardmore in October, 2000.

A man of few words, Bill was a Godly man who considered himself 'most blessed'. He dearly loved his Lord, his family, his church, and his friends.
