Mary C. Steadman

NORFOLK - Mary Ellen Craft Steadman , 78, was called home to be with the Lord April 24, 2002, in a Chesapeake hospital. She worked for many years at the Tea Room in Smith and Weltons in downtown Norfolk. Born in Norfolk, she was the daughter of the late Nancy M. Davis Craft and Lonnie Linwood Craft, and was the widow of Frank Steadman Jr.

Mrs. Steadman was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church, and was a faithful member of The Wesleymen Bible Class. She was also a member of Westminster Chapter No. 99, Order of Eastern Star and the Ladies of the Scottish Rite.

Survivors include two daughters, Linda E. Church of Chesapeake and Shirley S. Rogerson and husband, Roger, of Virginia Beach; three sons, Frank Linwood Steadman and wife, Linda, of Virginia Beach, Lonnie R. Steadman and wife, Barbara, of Chesapeake, and Larry W. Steadman and wife, Lillian, of Currituck, N.C.; a sister, Barbara LaRosa of Camarillo, Calif.; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in the chapel of Cox Funeral Home by Judge Hal J. Bonney Jr. and John W. Bonney. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery. The family will be at the residence of Lonnie R. Steadman . Memorial contributions may be made to the Scholarship Fund of The Wesleymen, 408 Boush St., Norfolk, VA 23510.
