J. M. CRABB was born in Henry County, Ky., June 23, 1833, the fourth of eight children born to S. D. and Nancy (Poston) Crabb. S. D. was born in Kentucky and was engaged in agricultural pursuits. He was a son of Jeremiah and Eleanor (Compton) Crabb. Jeremiah was a tanner by trade, and was a native of Maryland, but immigrated to Kentucky in 1796, and settled in Nelson County, near Bardstown. He did not work at his trade after coming to Kentucky, but devoted his time to agricultural pursuits. Mrs. Nancy Crabb was born in Bourbon County in 1802, and is still living. She is a daughter of John and Nancy (Yates) Poston. Our subject has always lived in Henry County, was educated in the common schools and Georgetown College, and has always followed farming and stock raising; owns 300 acres of fine land near Eminence, and is a prosperous farmer. December 2, 1857, he married Mary Netherton, of Oldham County, daughter of John and Margaret (Johnson) Netherton, and three children have blessed their union, two now living: John A., who was born September 12, 1861, educated at Georgetown College, and October 1, 1884, opened a saddle and harness store in Eminence, and has been very successful. The other living child is J. T., who was born January 24, 1865, was educated at Eminence College, and is at home on the farm with his father. The mother of these children died February 7, 1865, and May 3, 1866, he married Bettie Byrns, of Henry County, daughter of Aaron and Elizabeth (Bryan) Byrns. Of the two children born to this union one is living--S. Aaron. Mr. and Mrs. Crabb and all the children are members of the Baptist Church.
