STAUNTON – Thelma (Searle) Coyner Cooke, 98, of 330 Campbell St., died Saturday (Jan. 3, 2004).
Born Nov. 1, 1905, in Augusta County, she was a daughter of James Burgess and Annie(Whitesell) Coyner.
She retired from Genesco, and was a member of Third Presbyterian Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles L. Cook Sr.; five brothers, Herman, Houston, James, Haskell, and Bernie Coyner; and a sister, Eva Hall.
Surviving are four children, Charles L. Cook, Jr. and wife Lena of Fishersville, Forrest C. Cook of Staunton, Fred A. Cook and wife Betty of Staunton, and Lois C. Breen of Staunton; two sisters, Margie Bailey of Waynesboro and Carris Viel of Weyers Cave; four sisters-in-law, Sybil Coyner of Greenville, Sarah Frances Coyner of Culpeper, Grace Cook of Staunton, and Nancy Smith of Roanoke; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday in Thornrose Cemetery by the Rev. Jack Wilkers.
The family will receive friends at the homes of Lois Breen, 331 Campbell St., Staunton; and Fred and Betty Cook, 1539 Middle River Road, Staunton.
Memorials may be made to the building fund of Third Presbyterian Church, 1313 Barterbrook Road, Staunton, Va., 24401.
