He was thought to be the first physician to actively practice medicine in Turners Falls. He attended The University of Vermont and was the first doctor to practice medicine in Peru. Coy went on to open a practice in Worthington, before coming to Montague City in 1870. He fell ill and died from heart failure on December 28, 1897. During his illness and at the time of his death, he was attended to by Dr. Enoch G. Best of Turners Falls.
