Helen "Louise" Benson of Loveland, formerly of Longmont, died Saturday, Aug. 19, 2006, at Hospice of Larimer County Care Center in Loveland. She was 98. She was born July 12, 1908, in Grinnell, Iowa, to John Wright and Bessie Ellen (Donnan) Cox. She grew up in Ewart, Iowa, on a farm. She received teacher training and taught in rural Iowa schools. She married Lawrence Linley Benson on Aug. 6, 1939, in Grinnell. She lived in many Iowa and Illinois towns because of her husband"s job with the U.S. Department of Agriculture. She moved to Longmont in 1971 and then to Loveland in 2003. She was a member of Central Presbyterian Church in Longmont but was most recently attending Mountain View Presbyterian Church in Loveland. She taught Sunday school, was involved with women"s groups at the church and was also involved with Mariners groups, AARP and NARFE. She enjoyed traveling, camping, working in her garden and canning fruits and vegetables with her husband. She will be remembered as a gentle, loving, dignified and determined lady who enjoyed spending time with her family and was a wonderful cook and pie baker. She was preceded in death by her husband on Feb. 3, 1985. She is survived by a daughter, Elaine Eastman and her husband Mike of Loveland; a son, Don Benson and his wife Mary of Kansas City, Mo.; four grandchildren, Barry and Scott Eastman of Loveland, Jennifer Benson of Toledo and Brad Benson of Omaha; five great-grandchildren, Samantha and Katy Lutz and Zachary, Tally and Dylan Eastman, all of Loveland; and many other family members and loved ones. Visitation will be 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2006, at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, with family present to greet friends. Memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2006, at Loveland Good Samaritan Retirement Village, 2101 S. Garfield Ave. in Loveland, with the Revs. James H. Webb and George Huber officiating. Private interment will be at Foothills Gardens of Memory. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Loveland Good Samaritan Retirement Village, Hospice of Larimer County or Mountain View Presbyterian Church Deacon"s Fund and sent to Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, 326 Terry St., Longmont 80501.
