Mr. E. H. Cox, who died at Colfax on the 11th inst., had been a resident of that town for about eight years. Previously he had lived in Contra Costa, of which county he was a pioneer settler and a prominent citizen. During the years 1857 and 1858, he was School Superintendent of the county. Before removing to Colfax, he had suffered greatly from asthma, but the climate of that town relieved him very materially. Mrs. Cox, immediately after her husband’s death, sold her effects and returned to her old home in the San Ramon Valley, Contra Costa County. [Placer Argus, Auburn, Saturday, 8-26-1882]
