Hastings resident, Janette Elizabeth Cox, 80, died Friday, Sept. 26, 2003 at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings.
Miss Cox was born May 19, 1923 to Esker M. and Janet McKee Cox at Ragan. She started school at Ragan and moved to McPherson, Kansas at age 12 with her family. After her father's death, she moved to Alma with her mother. She graduated from high school at Alma in 1941 and attended Kearney State Teachers College at Kearney for two years. She attended Gradwohl Technical Institute in St. Louis, Mo, from 1943-44 and worked in labs at the ordinance plant at Baraboo, WI, from 1944-1945. From 1945-47, she attended the University of Wisconsin at Madison, WI and in 1947 served an internship in medical technology at Madison General Hosptial. In 1948, she passed her board exams, becoming a registered medical technologist. She then worked at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, MO, at University Hospital in Denver, CO, and at a medical clinic in Greeley, Co. In 1964, she moved to Hastings, where she worked at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital from 1964-1970. She moved to Prescott, AZ in 1970, working at the Veterans Administration Hospital where she became lab supervisor. In 1985 she retired and moved to Alma. She moved to Hastings in 1993.
She was a member of First Christian Church at Alma, a 60 year member of P.E.O. and a current member of P.E.O. Chapter FA in Hastings.
