Birth: Nov. 5, 1803
Madison County
Kentucky, USA
Death: Jul. 14, 1900
Nodaway County
Missouri, USA

Died at his home a few miles South
West of Maryville, Friday morning,
July 13, 1900. Isaac Cox, aged 96
years,8 months and 8 days.

Isaac Cox was born November 5,
1803, in Richmond, Madison county,
Kentucky, where he grew to man-
hood on a farm, receiving his educa-
tion in the log school houses of that
period. At the age of 21 he learned
the trade of blacksmith, at which he
worked for several years, and then
learned the carpenter trade which he
pursued for several years.

In 1837 Mr. Cox was married to
Lucy A. Boatright. To them were
given four children, three of whom,
William Y.; Benoni A. and Elizabeth
H. survive their father, the mother
having passed away some years ago.

In July 1842 Mr. Cox and family
moved to Missouri, stopping in Bu-
chanan county for a few months. In
1843 he moved to Nodaway county
(then unorganized) and settled on
the farm on which he died. About
two years after settling there his log
house with all the contents was
burned, and he moved down to
Platte county and worked at the
carpenter trade until he saved
money enough to pay for his farm.
He then rebuilt his house, which was
again destroyed by fire and rebuilt

Mr. Cox worked at his trade sever-
years after coming here, aiding in
putting up many of the early build-
ings in Maryville.

Mr. Cox accumulated some 200
acres of ground on which he had a
large orchard and considerable small
fruit. He was naturaly a very stout
and active man, but had gradually
given up hard work some years be-
fore his death. He was well known
to all our older citizens, having been
a constant visitor at Maryville until
only a year or so ago. It has only
been a short time since he drove up
to the Republican office with a span
of horses that might well have caus-
ed a young man to hesitate before
driving them.

Mr. Cox was formerly a member of
the Baptist church, and was always
a strong adherent of the Republican

Funeral services were held Satur-
day, after which the remains were
laid away in White Cloud cemetery.
Our old landmarks are rapidly pas-
ing away and soon none who came
here before the organization of the
county will be left. But their mem-
ory will remain ever green with us.
