Barbara "Joanne" Carder, 80, a resident of the Hillsboro community died Sunday evening, December 5, 2010 at her home.
Funeral Services will be at 12:00 noon, on Friday, December 10, 2010 at the All Saints Episcopal Church; 327 NE Lincoln Street in Hillsboro. A reception will follow the services at the Church Hall.
Vault interment will take place at 12:00 PM on Monday, December 13, 2010 at the Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, OR.
Joanne was born on January 13, 1930 in Alturas, CA. She was one of two daughters born to Joe and Dolly (Hampton) Cox. She and her family followed her father's career in the logging industry and had lived throughout Northern California and Southern Oregon. Joanne attended Klamath Falls High School, also attended Oregon State University and finished a Bachelors degree at Portland State University.
She met her future husband, William Ray Carder, at a "Nickel Hop" at OSU. They soon began to court and were married in December 31, 1949 in Klamath Falls, OR. Following their marriage they made their home in Corvallis, OR until 1951 when they moved to Prineville, OR. In 1956 they made their final move to Hillsboro where they have lived since.
Joanne was first and foremost a devoted mother to her three children and a loving spouse to her family. She had also worked as a customer service rep for the Federal Internal Revenue Service in Portland retiring in 1986.
Joanne and her husband were bulldog breeders. They traveled extensively throughout the country showing and attending at dog shows. Joanne was also a very thoughtful person with a strong personality. She enjoyed reading, baking and traveling.
She is preceded in death by her parents and a sister; Joyce Colton. Survivors include her loving husband; Ray of the family home, three children and their spouses; Bill and Darlene Carder of Aloha, OR, Kathryn Kaufmann of Redmond, OR, Marilyn Hatzke of Spokane, WA, seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
The family suggests donations in Joanne's name to Oregon Zoo, 4001 SW Canyon Rd. Portland, OR 97221-9704
