Collin H Hunter married Louisa McLoud in 1857 in Illinois. They lived in Lincoln, Logan Co, IL until 1858, when they moved to Sullivan County, Missouri. In 1875 the family moved to Hamburg, Iowa.

Collin was a veteran of the Civil War. He enlisted 1 Aug 1864 in Milan, Sullivan County, Missouri as a Private. He mustered in Co E 44th Missouri Infantry Volunteers 8 Sep 1864 in St. Joseph, Missouri. Promoted to 6th Corporal 20 Nov 1864. Mustered out 15 Aug 1865 Benton Barracks, St. Louis, Missouri.

Collin and Louisa had 8 children.

Collin H Cowardin died at the age of 52 years 3 months.
