Andrew L. Cowan served his country with Company F 186th Infantry Regiment of the Grand Army of the Republic. His father Asa, pension application number 454616, on July 21, 1890. Andrew was the son of Eskaulus Asa Cowan (1811-1892) and Nancy (Silliman) Cowan. Nancy's parents are John Sillaman
and Phoebe Sillaman.
He, his parents, and his sibling were both born in West Virginia. The family is first found in Westmoreland County in the 1870 census.
