She and her family moved to Charlotte in 1926. She attended Sharon High School and Queens University, class of 1937. In 1962, she was awarded an Honorary Life Membership in Sharon Presbyterian Church in Charlotte. She was active in the Women's Circle and served as President of the Women of the Church. She taught Sunday school for 20 years and was a Scout Leader. Before her husband, William Frank Black died in 1993, they had owned Springside Dairy on Park Road. In retirement, they owned the Holly Meadow Antique Shop in Waxhaw, NC.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, Winston Wall Covington & Ethel M. McLean Black; her brother, Winston Wall Covington of Mint Hill, NC; and her sisters, Virginia Covington Furr of Charlotte and Ruth Covington Thomas of Greensboro.

Survivors include children, W. Frank Black & Sally B. Miller and her husband Dale; grandsons, Jay A. Miller and his wife Sondra, Malcolm B. Miller and his wife Carolyn, W. Frank Black III, & Eric W. Black and his wife Amy; six great-grandchildren.

Interment in the Church graveyard followed funeral services conducted Wednesday, January 23, 2008.
