Florence (Couts) Askew was born on November 18, 1865 in Tennessee, the daughter of John Franklin Couts (1818–1897) and his 2nd wife Carrie E (Patton) Couts (1849–1887). {It appears that Florence's son Couts - the informant on her Death Certificate - incorrectly listed his mother's father as William Fleming Couts, when it should have been John Franklin Couts.}
She was married in 1886 to Laurin Bryan Askew Sr (1863–1927), the son of Bryan Askew and Nina (Lauren) Askew (ca 1836- ).
Living at 302 South 2nd Street in Claksville, she was 85 years old and a widow when she passed away at home on August 26, 1951, following a short illness.
Survivors included her son John Couts Askew, seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and her sister Mrs Gertrude (Couts) Hopkins (1880-30 Aug 1951) - a former concert singer - in New York City.
Funeral Services were held on August 27th and burial was in Greenwood Cemetery.
