Birth: Mar. 2, 1922, England
Death: Mar. 18, 2004
California, USA

Joyce Bedding passed away peacefully on March 18, 2004 at 9:00 a.m. at her home in Oxnard, California. At her side was her loving husband Leslie, son Colin, daughters Sally and Evie and caretaker Sylvia. Everyone was holding onto her as she took her last breath. She had pneumonia and had been in and out of hospital after having a fall in early January. She was taken home from the hospital on March 12, and the next five days were spent with her constantly, talking about everything; lots of old happy memories, friends, relatives and we even told jokes. During the last couple of days of her life she didn't communicate with us at all, but we know she heard every word we said to her. A day or two before she passed Evie asked her for a smile and instead Joyce gave her one of her famous "no denture, rubber face contortions" it made everyone feel a lot better to hear about it going out with a sense of humor! Also during this time her good friend and caretaker Debbie Bosstick was with her, Bonnie her loving daughter-in-law and grandson Nicholas and his wife Debra and Joyce's 7-month-old great grandson Gaven - she really perked up when Gaven visited and once made an effort to wipe his dribbley mouth. The hospice team lead by Sharon and Bonnie were wonderful and loved how the room had been prepared for mum fresh flowers surrounded her, sweet smelling candles, photographs and lovely music played constantly. The memorial and funeral were on March 24, 2004, and it was a lovely spring day. The flowers were breath taking; Joyce always told the family to make sure she had plenty of flowers at her funeral, so that's what she got! Leslie had hundreds of pink roses arranged; a beautiful arrangement on the casket which read "wife and mother" and three other huge freestanding bouquets with ribbons that read; "friend", "grandmother" and "great grand mother". Besides these there were flowers from England and Canada and of course there were many from California. She was buried at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park, Ventura, California and the Officiant was a family friend, Rowland Chandler.
