Graveside services for Charlene Courtney Burkhalter age 77, of Dalhart, Texas will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 10, 2014, at the Bethel Cemetery southeast of Manitou, Oklahoma. Burial will follow under the direction of Jackson Funeral Home of Frederick. Mrs. Burkhalter passed away Tuesday, May 6, 2014, in Pampa, Texas.
Edna Charlene (Courtney) Burkhalter was born August 27, 1936, in Manitou, Oklahoma to Claud and Addie (Morton) Courtney. Charlene attended Manitou Public Schools. On August 27, 1952, she and Eddie Burkhalter were united in marriage in Vernon, Texas. They lived in Manitou, Tipton and Vernon before moving to Dalhart in 1966. She managed the Traveler's Inn for years, and was a member of the First Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School. An avid bridge player, she also enjoyed being with her family and friends.
She is survived by her husband, Eddie Burkhalter of Dalhart, Texas; two daughters, Vicki Gale Stone of Dalhart and Karen Ruth Thomas and her husband, Tommy D. of Frederick; one son, Steven Forest Burkhalter and his wife, Sabrina of Canyon, Texas; two sisters, Maxine Rose and her husband Don of Tipton and Pauline Cook and her husband Tommy of Yukon; one brother, Claud Eugene Courtney of Oklahoma City; four grandchildren, Brandy Stout and her husband Lynn of Frederick, Britney Mansel and her husband Justin of Cache, Derek Burkhalter and his wife Becca of Austin, Texas and Kaleesi Raye Burkhalter of Canyon, Texas; and two great-grandchildren, Rachel & Gage Stout.
She is preceded in death by her parents; three sisters and one brother.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Friday evening at the funeral home in Frederick.
