Helen F. "Sarge" Corrigan of Newton, died peacefully early Friday morning April 8th, 2011 surrounded by her loving family in her daughter's home after a long illness at the age of 84.
Born in Waltham on August 1, 1926, daughter of the late Francis and Julia (Morley) Cotton, Helen was raised, educated and lived most of her life in Newton before moving to Waltham and Needham where she lived for past several years.
Helen was employed as a receptionist for "Peter Fuller Automotive" in Newton for many years. A devoted and loving homemaker to her six daughters, Helen in her spare time enjoyed playing bingo and was an avid Boston Red Sox fan.
Beloved wife of the late (Ret.) Newton Firefighter Edmund V. "Duke" Corrigan. She is survived by her loving daughters Jane Power and her husband Wayne of Hudson, Elizabeth "Betty" Corrigan of Florida, Mary Corrigan of Newton, Kathleen Paglia and her husband Daniel of Newton, Julie Daly and her husband John of Newton, and Teresa Corrigan of New Hampshire, her dear siblings Marie Landry of Florida, Ruth Coffey of Holliston and Arthur Cotton of Florida, her 9 cherished grandchildren Edward Power and his wife JoAnn, Stacy Brasco and her husband Paul, Brendan Mazola, Katelyn DeMaio and her husband Andrew, Amanda Paglia, John and Patrick Daly, Kelly and Emily Mooney, and her five great grandchildren Edward J. Power Jr. and John Power, Samantha, Patrick and Cameron Brasco.
In addition she is survived by many nieces and nephews. Sister of the late Gertrude Chicco, Agnes Surette, Emily Delaney, Mildred Aucoin, Francis and Thomas Cotton.
Relatives and Friends are respectfully invited to attend Funeral Services from the Brasco & Sons Memorial Chapels, 773 Moody St., WALTHAM on Monday morning April 11, at 9 a.m., with a Mass of Christian in celebration of Helen's Life at Our Lady Help of Christians Church, 573 Washington St., Newton at 10:30 a.m.
Committal Services will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Waltham.
