Clu, an accomplished wildlife biologist, avid cyclist, and outdoorsman, devoted husband, father, brother, and friend, has died. Clu's life was cut short when the helicopter he was riding in, while performing his duties with the California Department of Fish and Game, was involved in an accident that took the lives of all four men aboard, including two fellow Fish and Game biologists. Clu died while doing what he loved.
A graduate of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, he dedicated his professional life to studying the wildlife of California's wilderness areas and working with the public to ensure the balance between the needs of the wilderness and the residents he served.
He will be remembered by his peers for his caring nature, his easy laugh, and his ability to find humor in stressful situations.
In his personal life, Clu was a devoted husband and family man. He enjoyed nothing more than being a doting father to his two sons, Ren and Jamie. From sharing his passion for cycling with them to his incredible nightly bedtime stories, he was a truly great father.
He married his college sweetheart, Marni, and they built a life together in Fresno County for the past twenty years. In that time, they have raised a family and acquired a great number of devoted friends, who have been very supportive during this trying time. This is the greatest accomplishment of a man who has accomplished so much. We love you Clu, and we will miss you. Save a bedtime story for us. "And in the end, it's not the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years."..... Abraham Lincoln Clu.
James Cotter is survived by his wife Marni; his sons, Ren and Jamie; his sister Gay, brothers, Rhett, Doak, Zip, and their families.
California Department of Fish and Game is holding a public Memorial Service at Northside Christian Church in Fresno on Thursday, January 14, 2010, at 1:00 p.m.
A memorial fund to benefit Clu's children has been set up through Educational Employees Credit Union, Clu Cotter Memorial Fund Acct. # 11683673.
