Clement Patrick Cotter Sr., M.D., 81, a longtime resident of Huntsville and a native of Texas, passed away Tuesday. He was the son of Cornelius and Rose Anne Cotter of Dickinson, Texas.
He received his medical doctor degree from the University of Texas, School of Medicine in Galveston, Texas. After a distinguished medical career, he was a retired general and trauma surgeon, family physician and forensic physician, having practiced in the Huntsville area for over 40 years, and was a retired colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve after a 26 year military career.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 54 years, Mary Lambousy Cotter.
Survivors include children, Dr. Gregory Cotter of Mobile, Dr. Clement Cotter Jr. and wife Colleen of Hoover, Dr. Janet Atha and husband Larry of Huntsville, and Maria Cotter, J.D. of Huntsville; and eight grandchildren, Owen Cotter, Ardice Jane Cotter, Alexander Cotter, Matthew Cotter, Christine Cotter, Katie Thompkins, Mary Ignatiadis and Elaine Atha.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 625 Airport Road, Huntsville, with Father Mike MacMahon officiating. Burial will be held in Louisiana.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to your favorite charity.
