Eletha I. Colby, 81, formerly of 241 High St. died Thursday at the Ashtabula County Nursing Home. Born July 8, 1909, in Sheffield Township, she was a daughter of Charles W. and Alta (Kemp) Cosner and had been an area resident her entire life. Mrs. Colby retired from Brown Memorial Hospital where she had been employed as a cook for many years. She was a member of the Wesleyan Methodist Church. Survivors include a daughter, Doris Case of Gilmer, Texas; a son, Vernon Butts of Conneaut; nine grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; a sister, Ruth Jones of Longview, Texas; and three brothers, Walter Cosner of Jackson, Mich., Paul Cosner of Fellsmere, Fla., and Howard Cosner of North Springfield, Pa. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl; her parents; a sister Helen Lawyer; and a brother, William Cosner. Service is 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Thompson Funeral Home, 345 Main St. with the Rev. Robert Brooks of the Wesleyan Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Gageville Cemetery. Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the American Cancer Society. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
