Birth: Sep. 29, 1891
Death: Jul. 8, 1970

78y -- Married Effie May Friend, October 22, 1913, Crawfordsville, Indiana: Children: Lenard LeRoy, Kenneth E, Lyle, Virginia, Lando Jr.

Lando H. Cosby was born September 29, 1891, to Oliver H. and Anna Martz Cosby at Colfax, Indiana. His grandparents were Oliver C. and Maria Chisom Cosby and John and Mary Fouts Martz. Lando was the second child, others were Bernie, Douglas, Lee, Harley and Evah. The latter two died young. As a young man, Lando went to Michigan and worked for awhile, but came back to Montgomery County, Indiana and found work as a farm hand. When he worked for Theodore Friend near Lodoga, he was attracted to their quiet, pretty daughter, Effie May. His brown eyes, dark hair and jovial nature along with being a hard worker led to romance and Alter marriage. They were married October 22, 1913 and went to housekeeping on a farm in Brown Township, Montgomery County.

Effie and Lando were devoted Christian parents and were faithful life time members of the Brown Valley Christian church. Effie had a talent for writing poetry and many friends received cards, notes and letters of encouragement from her. Effie died October 28, 1961. Although Lando had been afflicted with asthma all his life he lived alone for nine years after her death. He died suddenly in his home July 8, 1970.

NOTE: Crawfordsville's Masonic Cemetery was founded in 1866 on South Grant avenue and was acquired by Oak Hill Cemetery in 1997. Those papers that Oak Hill did not want were given to the Crawfordsville District Public Library in 2002. although this collection was weather damaged and incomplete, papers saved from this donation include burial permits, cash receipts, foundation orders, miscellaneous papers (including some out of state permits and certificates), and correspondence. These papers have been abstracted for this index.
