According to the recollection of Hannah Corrigan, daughter of John Francis Corrigan, her grandmother, Bridget Sweeney Corrigan, was partially paralyzed from the birth of her son, Peter, and remained in that condition for some 30 years. Hannah served as her grandmother's communicator because Bridget could make only a few sounds. Bridget would take Hannah's hand and prompt her until she understand what Bridget wanted.
