Alverta Estelle "Bertie" Rudd Cornwell 82 of North Tazewell went to be with her Lord April 30 at the Tazewell Community Hospital.
Born March 1, 1923 in Tazewell County, a daughter of the late John Daniel Rudd and Jessie Ratliff Rudd.
She attended the Full Grace Gospel Church in Adria.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, J.P. "Shorty" Cornwell; two sisters, Etta Depollo and Louise Polacheck; and two brothers, Maynard Rudd and Dave Rudd.
Survivors; daughters, Linda Mitchell and husband Clifton, and Edith Kitts and husband Bill, all of Tazewell; sons, The Rev. Daniel Cornwell and wife Carol of North Tazewell, Mike Cornwell and wife, Sandy of Thompson Valley; granddaughter, Angela Cornwell of Thompson Valley; grandsons, Bernard Cornwell and wife, Kay, Billie Kitts and wife, Susan and George Kitts and wife, Sara, all of Tazewell, Scott Cornwell and wife Regina of Princeton, WV; great grandchildren, Nathan Cornwell, Lindsay Perkins, Brandon Perkins, Ausin Kitts and Noah Storie, all of Tazewell, Nicci Cornwell and husband Jeremy, of Bluefield, WV, Zachery Cornwell of Princeton, WV; sisters Katherine Shrewsbury of Roanoke, Mae Packard of Aberdeen, MD, Josephine Lawing of Winter Park, FL; and brother Joe Rudd of Apopka, FL.
The funeral was conducted May 3 at 2 p.m. at the Peery & St. Clair Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell with the Rev. Daniel Cornwell and the Rev. Bernard Cornwell officiating.
Burial followed at the Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, VA.
