Samuel S. Bates married Miss Augusta Cornish in Graham, Texas in 1917. The couple moved to Graham on 22 August 1919 following the close of Word War I.

Gussie Cornish graduated from Graham High School. Graduated from Texas Christian University. She taught school for many years at Flat Rock, Conner Creek, Graham Ranch school and Megargel Schools.

Her husband, along with her brother, Rex Cornish, opened the Shamrock Chevrolet Agency in Graham, Texas.

Art Club, Art Display County Fair, Flower Show Judge. Leader in many civic events.

Funeral officiated by Dr. Dan Sebesta.

Moved to Colorado in 1967 from Lubbock, Texas.

Survivors: two daughters; two sons; 17 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; three sisters, niece - Mrs. W.L. Scott, Jr. of Graham.
