Born May 4, 1921, in Lexington, Mr. Corley was the son of the late Hammond Corbit Corley and Polly Kirkland Corley and the grandson of the late Patrick Henry Corley and Sally Wingard Corley. He grew up in the Shandon area, graduated from University High School and attended the University of South Carolina.
Mr. Corley began a distinguished sales career with Columbia Beauty Supply Company on February 1, 1939 and worked for the company for 56 years, retiring on January 31, 1995. His territory ranged throughout the Pee Dee and along the Grand Strand and he was a familiar figure at beauty and barber shops throughout the region. In addition to perennially leading the company in sales, he served as the chief trainer for new employees and often gave them some of his customers for a sales base. The award to the company's top salesman is named in his honor. He also served on the South Carolina Board of Cosmetology. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Sigma Chi Fraternity.
Surviving are his niece, Patricia M. "Pat" Spear and husband, Robert F. "Bob" Spear; nephews, J. Michael "Mike" Duffy and William J. "Bill" Duffy Jr.; brother-in-law, William J. "Bill" Duffy and wife, Sybil Duffy; grandniece, Laura S. (Mrs. Chris) Trainor; great-grandnieces, Kathleen, Claire and Julia Trainor; cousin, Gail Corley Sayetta. He was predeceased by his wife of 66 years, Doris Duffy Corley; sister-in-law, Kathleen Duffy Muir; half-sisters, Vivian Corley Gaskin, Billy Ruth Corley Poole and Sally Corley Smyrl.
