Albert W. Cordwell was born April 14, 1907, in Ogdensburg, son of Albert and Minnie Mae Withers Cordwell. He graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy in 1925.

While in high school, he worked for Huff-Dalen, a company that covered airplane wings with canvas, and in the summer worked in the planning stages of the St. Lawrence Seaway at Chateaugay as a surveyor's assistant.

He married Alice Julia Boyer on July 4, 1940, at Notre Dame rectory with Monsignor A.D. Charbonneau officiating. The couple lived at 30 Rensselaer Ave. and then on State Street before moving in 1942 to Franklin Street. They owned a boathouse on the St. Lawrence River and property on the Oswegatchie River. Mrs. Cordwell died June 7, 1997.

Mr. Cordwell worked for Ogdensburg Trust Co. from 1925 until 1972, when he retired as vice president. Mr. Cordwell enjoyed gardening, fishing and duck hunting on Black Lake in earlier years. He also enjoyed the woods and working on forestry projects on his property.

Surviving are two sons, Wayne A., Canton, and Albert E. "Bert," Daytona Beach, Fla.; a brother, George H., California; eight grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A sister, Elizabeth Jane Phillips, died before him.
