Lala Shell, 86, St. Augustine, died Jan. 20, 1998, at her home. She was born in Carter County, Tenn., and she retired after 21 years as postmaster in Elk Park, N.C. She also served as the tax collector in Avery County, N.C., and she was a past worthy matron of the Order of Eastern Star.
Funeral services will be held at a later date in Newland, N.C., with Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home in charge. Burial will be in Perry Cemetery, Roan Mountain, Tenn.
Survivors include a daughter, Bettie A. Shell, St. Augustine; four sisters, Dora Boone, Johnson City, Tenn., Bea Blevins, Lily Mae (Pill) Burrow, both of Elizabeth, Tenn., Thelma McKinney, Roan Mountain; one grandchild and one great-grandchild.
