--Col. Edward R. Coppock, U. S. Army retired, was found dead on his farm near Amboy Sunday. His death was attributed to a heart block.
--Colonel Coppock, although 73 years old, had been active up to the time of his death. He was stricken while attempting to pick a few cherries. His wife found his body lying beneath the tree.
--A native of Miami county, Colonel Coppock enlisted as a private in the army in 1886 and served in Cuba during the Spanish-American War and in the Philippines. He was with General Pershing during the Mexican expedition against Pancho Villa and served as an officer in France during World War I. He retired September 30, 1938, after 35 years' service.
--At one time, Colonel Coppock had charge of an army recruiting station in Indianapolis and while in that position took up the study of law and was admitted to the bar in Indianapolis.
--He is survived by the widow, Kate, and three children, Sedgwick Coppock, Edward R. Coppock Jr., and Mrs. Nancy de Rodrguiz, all of San Antonio, Tex., where Colonel Coppock owned and operated a large ranch; and two brothers, Donald Coppock, Peru, and Eugene Coppock, Converse.
--The funeral will be held at the home at 4:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon with a prayer service by the Rev. Earl Sharp of the Santa Fe Methodist church. Full military rites will be conducted by Glen Owens post, American Legion of Peru. Burial is to be in Bond cemetery which is on the Coppock farm.
--The body is at the Laird funeral home in Amboy where friends may call after 7 o'clock Monday night. It will be taken to the family home Wednesday morning.
