Mrs. Copeland, Hagerstown's Oldest Resident, Dies At 98

Would Have Been 99 On Christmas

HAGERSTOWN - Mrs. Mary M. Copeland, 98, familiarly called "Aunt Set", Hagerstown's oldest resident, died early today at her home, 301 N. Perry St., following an illness of two days. She would have been 99 years old on Christmas Day.
Mrs. Copeland was the widow of Solomon Copeland, and was the daughter of the late Jacob and Martha Ward of Henry County. Mrs. Copeland despite her age, kept abreast of current affairs and in the summer months devoted much time to her flower garden.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. William Newcom of Detroit; a son, Exum Copeland of Hagerstown; two granddaughters; and two great-grandchildren.
The body will be taken from the Howard and Son Funeral Home to the residence where friends may call starting 4 o'clock Tuesday afternoon.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Hagerstown Methodist Church. Burial will be in the cemetery adjoining the Brick Church west of Hagerstown.
