"Dick"

Richard Ludlow Cope died October 6, 2001, in Salt Lake City, Utah, after an extended illness. He was born June 30, 1915, in Salt Lake City to Albert John and Ethel Ludlow Cope. He married Maxine Juluson on April 13, 1940, in Pocatello, Bannock Co., Idaho. The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Latter-day Saints Temple. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, two sisters and one brother.

Dick was a graduate of West High School and attended LDS Business College and the University of Utah. His career specialties were in accounting and management. He excelled in whatever he did. He gave freely to others who sought or needed his abilities and skills.

During Dick's lifetime, he was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to the extent that his health permitted. He lived in the Fourth, Ensign, Canyoncrest, and Parleys Third wards in Salt Lake City and Edgemont Eighth in Provo. In a Book of Remembrance, he described some of his special experiences in these wards as being spiritually beautiful and choice. Among various Church positions which he held were secretary to the Elders' Quorum, Sunday School Superintendent, Young Mens' (YMMIA) instructor, ward newspaper editor, Sunday School secretary and home teacher. Dick was a High Priest.

Dick enjoyed all sports and especially being a sports spectator. In his youth, he was active in the Church basketball program.

He was a dearly loved person by family, friends and colleagues. He had great personal attributes of devotion, integrity and humility. He had unusual will power and inner strength while being gentle, loving and kind. He was a very kind son to his parents, a devoted spouse, and a good friend. He was always courteous and refined. Dick was an uncommonly compassionate person, especially in regard to children and the elderly. He will always be remembered for the years of loving care that he helped provide to Grandpa and Grandma Juluson during their long terminal illnesses. He will be greatly missed by those whose lives he deeply touched.

Dick is survived by his wife, four brothers, Albert John of Tacoma, Washington, William L. and Alan L. of Salt Lake City, Wesson L. of San Diego, California,; one sister, Helen Hanes of Salt Lake City, and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services will be held at Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. South Temple, Salt Lake City, on Saturday, October 13, 2001, at 12 noon. Friends may call from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. prior to services. Interment will be in the Salt Lake City Cemetery, 4th Avenue and "N" Streets, on the northwest bench.
