Catharine was married to the Episcopal priest, scholar, and author Joab Goldsmith Cooper at an unknown date. He had been born in eastern Massachusetts and graduated from Columbia University in Manhattan. He was also baptized as an adult by the Episcopal bishop at Trinity Church in Manhattan, Bishop Benjamin Moore, on July 11, 1807, who also later ordained him.
Catharine was a sister of my ancestor, Margaret Robertson McQueen Bryan, the wife of Dr. Elijah Bryan, dentist, born in London, England in 1790 to Quaker parents. Margaret and Elijah were married in Manhattan in October of 1818 by the Rev. Lyell, who was probably the Episcopalian priest Thomas Lyell. Elijah went and preached Swedenborgianism in the West Indies starting about 1846 and supported himself as a dentist, but his daughter Eliza C. Bryan, my ancestor through her first husband, John Augustus Freeland, was married in St. Paul's Episcopal Chapel in Manhattan in July of 1844 and her sister, Amelia Margaret Bryan, was married at Trinity Episcopal Church in September of 1846 to Robert Robinson who was probably born in England.
I have a copy of Catharine's death certificate at Mobile, Alabama which I obtained in 2004. It gives her age at death on March 31, 1879 as being 87 years old and says that she was a resident of the city for 5 years before her death. It says that she is to be buried at the Old Cemetery and is signed by John McDonald, the Undertaker. Her doctor was Dr. H. Cox who was her nephew in Mobile, Dr. Henry T. Cox who was married to Emily Godfrey-Godsfrey. Catharine died at the house of her nephew Dr. Cox whose house was at New St. Francis between Pine and Hallett. The place of death was in the 8th Ward of Mobile.
