Albert C. Cooper Jr., 73, of Norristown, a gregarious engineer who sold equipment to nuclear power plants, died Sunday of complications from progressive supranuclear palsy at home. Mr. Cooper grew up in West Oak Lane and graduated from Central High School in Philadelphia. After earning a degree in mechanical engineering at Drexel University, he was a sales representative for Rockwell International and later worked in sales for Edward Valves, a supplier of valves to nuclear power plants. He retired in the 1990s and was honored for 50 years in his profession by the Society of Mechanical Engineers.
Mr. Cooper was a past president of the Valley Forge Chapter of Parents Without Partners and met his wife of 17 years, Bernece Gosnell Cooper, at a Partners cookout. She said Mr. Cooper was outgoing and valued friendships. He loved sailing on the Chesapeake Bay and had also sailed to the Virgin Islands and the Bahamas. Mr. Cooper also is survived by his daughter, Lyn Williams; sons Steven and Kenneth; stepsons David and Mark Gosnell; stepdaughters Debra Graham and Susan Fuhs; nine grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and his former wife, Florence Cooper. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. tomorrow at Lower Providence Presbyterian Church, 3050 W. Ridge Ave., Norristown. Friends may call from 10 a.m. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Roslyn.
