Joseph "Papa Joe" Cooper, 99, of Owensboro died Wednesday, December 12, 2007 at The Carmel Home. Born in Daviess County, a son of the late George & Mary Hoheimer Cooper, Mr. Cooper served for 37 years as superintendent of Mater Dolorosa Cemetery and was the founding superintendent of Resurrection Cemetery. He was a long time member of St. Stephen Cathedral and was a current member of Immaculate Catholic Church. His wife, Mary Myrtle Cooper, died in 1996. Survivors include his sons, George Cooper, Steve (Etta) Cooper, and Tony (Linda) Cooper, all of Owensboro; his daughters, Sister Maggie Cooper, SCN of Belize, Ann (Jim) Bittel of Lewisport, and Cathy Brooks (Richard) of Owensboro; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren. Services, officiated by The Rev. Tony Jones, are 2 p.m. Friday at Immaculate Catholic Church. Visitation will be at Glenn Funeral Home from 3-8 p.m. Thursday and from 10 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in Mater Dolorosa Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Carmel Home Building Fund.
