Wanda Lynn Burleson Cooper, age 73, resident of Memphis and wife of the late Martin Wayne Cooper, departed this life Wednesday morning, May 16, 2018 at her residence.

Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Cooper were conducted at 11 A.M. Saturday, May 19, 2018 at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Rev. Michael Morris, pastor of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Lakeland, Tennessee, officiating. Interment followed in the Friendship Methodist Cemetery in Peppertown, Mississippi. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center – Main Chapel of Somerville.

Mrs. Cooper was born June 26, 1944 in Fulton, Mississippi, the daughter of Charles Edward Burleson and Mary Ophelia Hood Burleson. She was a graduate of Itawamba High School Class of 1962 and graduated from Jackson State Community College with a 4.0 GPA. She was employed as a fashion buyer for Lasky’s Department Store in Aberdeen, Mississippi, R.W. Reed Company and Stegall Shoes before her retirement. Mrs. Cooper was married April 2, 1990 to Martin Wayne Cooper and was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Lakeland. She was a member of the Ruth Circle where she enjoyed spending time with her friends and Sunday School class.

Mrs. Cooper enjoyed the outdoors, especially camping, “Girls’ Day Out” shopping, sewing, reading, crocheting, painting and sketching. She had a love for her many pets, Rowdy, Casey and Zoey, to name a few, plus several fur-baby grandchildren. She will be remembered for being a loving wife, mother, sister and friend.

Mrs. Cooper is survived by her daughter, Kecia Reid (Paul) of Rossville, TN; her son, Benjamin Mowers (Tiffany) of Memphis, TN; three stepsons, Greg Cooper (Tina), Anthony Cooper (Shelia), Richard Cooper; her sister, Mary Olivia “Libby” Jones (Keith) of Tupelo, MS; three stepsisters, Sharon Miller, Valerie Whitten, Donna Bosken; and two stepbrothers, Jack Hillensbeck and Doug Hillensbeck.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Martin Wayne Cooper; her parents, Charles and Mary Burleson; and her grandson, Nick Reid.

The family requests that memorials be directed to St. Paul United Methodist Church, 2949 Davies Plantation Road, Lakeland, TN 38002.
